Backs, cats, watercolors, and rubber stamps

Things are not good here at our household. Mark is in terrible pain, his back has been awful the past two days. He doesn’t sleep at all at night. He slept a little yesterday morning, and I think he is sleeping now, but he may just be laying quietly. He’s not a snorer (as opposed to me) so it’s hard to tell. I am hoping the massage Ann gave him yesterday will help work out the muscle issues. We need to get him in physical therapy soon.

Harmony the cat did not have a good night, either. She spent the night barfing, usually in our bed. If either of us was able to drift off, we woke to the acking sounds of one cat barfing. She was hungry this morning so I fed her. She’s now thrown that up, too. She seems fine, just wants to barf. Maybe she’s trying to keep her girlish figure. I’m keeping an eye on both of them, I would really like things to return to normal, with just occasional back pain and cat barfing.

I made a few more pentagram watercolors:

I’ve also carved a couple of rubber stamps:

Repeat designs

I’ve been looking at a lot of repeat designs lately, I’m really interested it Indian decoration, or any decorative repeat, and I decided to get some stamps carved that could be used in different configurations. The little circle stamps are pencil eraser size, the bigger four circle stamp is about one and a quarter inches square. I like the different things you can do with them.

Calendar pages

Now that the calendars I made for Jane and mom have been given to them, I’d like to show you how they came out. Here’s February and April.

The theme is color!! I suspected mom was getting a little tired of my dark, dreary calendars, last year the theme was sacred text, and I went to great extremes (staining my bathtub) to get them to look dark and dirty. This year I tried to keep them bright!

A couple of close-ups to let you get the feel. I did them all from my hand carved rubber stamps. I pretty proud, I like the way they came out this year. I have to like them, I make myself one too, and I have to look at it all year.

Merry Merry

Hope you had a great holiday! I certainly did!

Wait until I get my shoes off before you start taking pictures!

Mom shows off the calendar I make her.

Jane checks out her calendar.

Jane and I play with the Gorey Dracula theater she got me.

The photographer is exhausted. Maybe it’s from looking at all that blue hair!

They are done!

I finally finished the calendars! I’m only showing you a tiny part, because the recipients read my blog, and they are not allowed to see them until Christmas.

I also finished the Christmas cards and got them in the mail!

And we even managed to go out to the Sundance short film festival in Ann Arbor last night, and managed to meet up with Perry at Ashley’s, despite giving him the wrong name for the bar.

Here’s a picture of Perry, on a nicer day in a prettier place. I used to work with Perry, and it was a lot of fun catching up.

Tonight, Whit Hill at the Trinity House. Life is good.
