According to The Writer’s Almanac, on July 1, 1731, Ben Franklin started the first circulating library. Thank you, Ben, I can’t imagine life without libraries. I’m going to walk down to my local lending library today and take out a few books. Despite the ease of the internet, the cheap paperbacks, all the borrowed books, all the Border’s gift cards, there is still a huge need for libraries. I’ll go pick out some books, and I won’t worry about whether they are worth the cost or if they’ll answer my questions, I’ll take what looks interesting and read as much of them as I want when I get home. All those books, all those videos, all the music, and it’s all free!
