Where I stood, with black eyed susans

feet black eyed susans again

The flowers are dying.  There is no Susan left in these Black-Eyed Susans, just the black eyes.  I hate to see fall coming, but the cooler temperatures make a nice change.  I’ll be happy for fresh apple cider and sweaters, less happy to see all the leaves that will need raking.

Where I Stand Sunday is an ongoing photo essay examining the different places Lynn Krawczyk spends her life standing. Too often we take for granted the everyday places we spend our lives walking on. If you’d like to join her by posting a photo on Sunday of places you’ve been on your blog/photo hosting site/website, leave a comment on her Sunday posts telling her where she can find you/your photo and she’ll add a link to her sidebar so others can find you. Nature atc’s

Our theme for the latest set of artists’ trading cards is nature, and boy did I have a hard time with it.  I’ve made two sets, I’m not real thrilled with either of them.

The first set is called Ode to Eva Gabor:

The second set I call Everything Dies:

I’m happier with the second set, though they are very simple, rubber stamps on mulberry paper.

Where I stood, with unattractive tan lines

geranium feet

Loving the way geraniums bloom all summer long, hating the way my socks and Chuck Taylor hi-tops leave me with tan legs and white feet.

Where I stood, at a garden wedding

Our friends were married in Matthaei Botanical Gardens Friday night.  The gardens are a wonderful place to visit.feet

There are lots of of strange tropical flowers to see.  We were inside, rain was pounding outside.

flowers

Bright colors set against dark green, everywhere you look you’re sure that can’t really exist in nature.

vows

It was a lovely wedding among the flowers.   Rain on your wedding day foretells a long and happy marriage.

sunset

The rain was followed by this, a beautiful sunset.

baby bunny

bunny

I was taking a walk yesterday and this little dude ran off a lawn and into the street, afraid of the noise of a weed whipper.  With a little encouragement he went back on the grass and off toward the woods, I hope he/she found home and is happy now.

Where I stood, working and playing

Party shoes meet work shoes.mark makes a garden

Mark and I rototilled a space behind one of our houses to make a community garden for the tenants.   A garage and workshop used to stand in this space, so there was lots of rubble under the ground.  Even after running the rototiller, I couldn’t put a shovel in the earth without hitting rock.

This is the pile of bricks and rubble pulled out of the garden.

And this is the garden.  I put in a few plants, but to my delight the residents immediately planted the rest.

garden 2

It will be a happy garden.  That was the work, Wednesday night was play, we saw Shemekia Copeland at the ark.  What a great show for blues lovers, Shemekia’s voice is amazing and she’s got a great band.   Last night we watched a lot of local bands take the stage at the Power Center in tribute to the Beatles.  It was part of Summerfest in Ann Arbor, a great night.  Lots of work, lots of play.  Maybe I’ll go back to bed now.
