The Northville Art House will hold an auction on Thursday, September 18th. They are auctioning off chairs painted by artists to benefit the Art House, and this is the second chair I painted. I call it rebirth.
The chair was another foundling, picked up by the side of the road. I felt it needed some Egyptian designs.
It is a pretty chair to start with, and I wanted it to feel just a little throne-like.
I had a lot of fun playing with the colors and shapes.
I called it rebirth because the lotus flower represented rebirth in ancient Egypt.
The Northville Art House is having a fundraising auction called The Painted Chair. I’m proud to say I will have two chairs in the auction. This is the first, I call it My Hoppy Chair.
I am a big fan of beer, and that has left me with a plethora of bottle caps. I decided to use them to cover an old chair.
I painted hop vines on the back and around the bottle caps.
The goats hanging from the back of the chair are from Celebrator Doppelbock, each bottle comes with a little plastic goat tied around the neck.
This is the second of two new voodoo boxes. This one is called “Rational Numbers”. There is magic in numbers, spirits hide in the spaces between them. They are fond of fractions.
Both these boxes should be on view at the American Sewing Expo in Novi this weekend.
This is one of two new voodoo boxes, this one is called “Where Wood Meets Water”. These are the spirits that live along wooded water lands.
until the 18th. Come see us.
The opening for the Northville Art House member show is tonight. There are many amazing artists showing this time (even me!) It is a great show. You gotta see it!
My friend Lynn wrote a great article in Quilting Arts about our fiber group, the escape artists. They put a big photo of me n the article. Then the local paper ran a photo of one of my voodoo pieces that will be in the Northville Art House member show starting Friday. I’m famous! Isn’t fortune suppose to follow?
